Ian’s background in investment banking has spanned twenty-five years. He has worked mostly for major European banks, heading teams and subsidiaries across continental Europe, including France, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Spain. He has specialized in a number of asset classes and sectors, including UK small-caps. He has also worked extensively on emerging markets, including Latin America, Eastern Europe and most recently, sub-Saharan Africa.

Ian joined Beer and Partners in 2004, and has achieved notable deal completions in sectors as diverse as software, leisure, and education. After a recent furlough during which he worked for a boutique investment bank and then as a consultant to an African start-up in the securities sector, he re-joined the Beer group in 2010.

Ian read Classics and Modern Languages at Oxford, and holds an MBA with Distinction. He speaks five foreign languages in addition to English. He is based in the City office and in addition runs his own consultancy and interim management company from home in Sevenoaks, Kent.
