The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme launches on 6 April 2012. Investors (including founders holding less 30%), family and friends can invest up to £100,000 in a business that is up to 2 years old and has assets of less than £200,000 and no more than 25 employees. Whilst final details are still to be published, the scheme is headlining on initial tax relief of 50% of the amount invested and Capital Gains Tax relief if held for qualifying period.

A lesser publicised benefit is the ability to roll over Capital Gains made in 2012/13 into an SEIS investment for a one year “CGT holiday”. This means that investors could effectively make an investment of £100,000 for a net of just £22,000. For more information, please click here.

With the Government placing renewed emphasis on angel investment into early stage businesses, we are already seeing increased interest in investing and new companies setting up and seeking finance. We intend ensuring that several of the companies presenting at our London Investment Fair on March 8th will qualify for this advantageous tax relief. If you know of any such enterprises that may qualify and are seeking funding, do please let us know.

As active investors you are crucial to the success of this policy to get the UK back on its feet by encouraging small companies to obtain the necessary funding to grow. Come to our Fair and meet a carefully selected group of opportunities, who require your expertise as well as investment.

Could you be a Beer Associate?

We are continuing to actively seek new recruits across the UK to build our team of Associates.

We are searching for qualities we most value. New business start-ups and the lack of availability of other sources of finance mean that Business Angel funding is a growth sector. Therefore we require deal-makers, people with the ability to sell and to market both themselves and Beer services and who have a clear understanding of corporate finance type deals on a small scale. Anyone from a professional or financial services background would have a particular advantage.

Should you be interested, or if someone springs to mind fitting the above profile, we would appreciate your referral.

Life Sciences Division

Life Sciences Division

There is clearly a case for making space for life sciences related investments in an Angel investment portfolio. The Beer Life Sciences Division was set up in Spring 2011, with tremendous opportunities related to diagnostics, medical devices, drugs, IT, instruments and cleantech - to name a few areas.

We are finding investors who have deep connections and knowledge of the relevant industries and we are mixing them with those who simply like the sector because of the potential returns and the chance for the business to make a meaningful difference to people's lives.  We are also seeing institutional investors investing alongside individuals and we are seeing Beer investors accepting active board appointments...

SCALING UP AN EARLY STAGE B2B ONLINE PROPERTY MAINTENANCE COMPANY

Funds Sought:

Business Services & Internet
£100,000
London
Early Stage

  EIS Eligible  DD Pack Available
The demand for reliable tradespeople to service the B2B property maintenance market is increasing rapidly. Letting Agents, Housing Associations, restaurant and pub chains require a reliable, efficient and affordable supply of a wide range of trades, and appreciate the benefits of booking quickly and easily online, single billing and credit accounts.

The business model is based upon two income streams: First, a regular flow of affordable membership subscriptions from a large number of tradespeople providing sufficient redundancy to enable the company to respond quickly to customer demand. Second: a commission (varying with the complexity of the work but no less than 10%) added to Members quotations for work. Members benefit from a regular stream of work via the Company, with payments being made directly to the Company.

The Company’s unique proposition is to provide a convenient single source for all the services needed (from gardening to electrical PAT testing etc.) to busy managers responsible for maintaining and/or letting and re-letting properties. Combined with competitive pricing this has proven a very attractive proposition during the Company’s first year of trading in Kent and East London during which the company has achieved month on month revenue growth.

Their immediate focus is to scale-up their operations by replicating their successful formula strategically in London by setting-up similar operations in North, West, South-West and South London.

The management have successfully built franchise businesses before and plan to expand long-term by selling franchises into other UK cities with a share of income going to the Company. An investment of £100,000 is required to fund the first objective of establishing and staffing operational centres in the London area.
