Our London Investment Fair held last week proved to be one of our best yet. The companies exhibiting were of a very high standard with hundreds of investor meetings held and more follow-up meetings being arranged.

Our selection process of taking on around 3% of the opportunities that are presented to us is key to this and we are actively looking for more companies requiring funding in the £100,000-£3m range. We’re already looking forward to our next one in June.

If you know of anyone in need of funding and you feel would be a good fit for our fair, please feel free to get in touch or click here for further information.

EXCELLENT RESPONSE TO LONDON INVESTMENT FAIR

We've had some extremely positive feedback regarding last week's London Investment Fair at Mark Masons' Hall from both the presenting companies and the investors who attended throughout the day. Two of the exhibiting companies had the following to say:

  • "We have met many investors, there is a great atmosphere and real excitement"
  • "I wasn’t sure what to expect but it’s definitely been worthwhile – lots of positive meetings"

The investors also gave us some encouraging feeback:

  • "This is my first Fair, and I will certainly come again, the quality of the companies is excellent"
  • "It’s a great way to meet a good mix of companies in a short space of time"
  • "Best yet!"
  • "A great event as always, I look forward to the next one"

We have more information further down this column regarding our next fair in June.

PUMP STORAGE FOR FAST RESPONSE ENERGY

Sector:
Funds Sought:
Location:
Stage:
Ref. Number:

Environmental & Energy
£1,200,000
North Wales
Early Stage
51153

EIS Eligible  25% or more part-funded

Fast Response energy is required when there is a surge of use on the Grid. It is the most expensive energy purchased, and it is expected that demand will double over the next 20 years. The release of water from a high storage facility to a lower one is the most efficient way of doing this. The water is returned to the upper reservoir when the tariff is at its cheapest. There are two such plants in N Wales, both working at near capacity and our client intends to obtain planning for more. The first site is on its way to approval and others have been identified. It would appear no other sites are in the planning process over the whole country, despite official statements of the need for FR especially with the unpredictability of renewable energy sources.

The Company is looking for equity of £100,000 and a loan of £500,000 (at 10% pa and repaid on the sale of the first permitted site expected within two years). Capital repayments will be made through the buy-back of shares as each site is permitted. Very substantial returns are expected. £400,000 has already been raised.

The internet comparison market for plumbers is worth an estimated £1bn and to date the current market leader has only £7 million in sales from a mix of different trades. Highly focused and differentiated from the current market leader, the website has been designed following feedback from plumbers themselves and already have 100,000 properties from letting agencies ready to use their services. More than just another online directory where customers still have to do all the legwork themselves, their USPs include:

  • Traffic-light system to show availability in local area
  • Online pricing for both regular and emergency work
  • Vetted plumbers only showing location, qualifications, insurance, and customer feedback
  • One-click booking for the customer
  • Membership benefits for the plumbers: business software, credit card services, advertising, professional insurance etc
  • Low monthly subscription fees from the plumbers

Our client is seeking an investment of £200,000 to ramp up its selling activities quickly and expand to other trades beyond the London area and is expected to break even in 12 months. It is currently funded by the Directors.
