Face to Face Investment...

There is no doubt that meeting entrepreneurs face to face is the best way for investors to get a genuine feel for the management team and the investment opportunity. This month we have two opportunities for you to do just that;

London Investment Fair - 10th March 2011

We have traditionally held these events twice a year for the last 11 years but at popular request we have extended our program to extend this to three events in 2011- March, June and November.

Our next London Investment Fair is being held on 10th March and typically attracts over 130 investors on the day. As a result of the previous editions of the fair in 2010, we raised funding of over £2.4m for 8 companies. Alongside our more traditional clients we are this year including a “Property Corner”  (see below for further information) where investors in property can access not just deal flow but ancillary legal and management services to hopefully improve returns.

The event is free to our registered investors and we have been oversubscribed with clients reserving places who we believe will interest you. If you are one of our registered investors and haven’t confirmed your attendance yet, then click here to do so.

The fair is limited to 32 companies and places were filled quickly for the March event. If you are interested in raising funding for your company at the next London Investment Fair in June please let us know well in advance.

Our angels are looking to invest into private companies that can show:

  • A clear and rational business plan demonstrating significant growth;
  • A management team that has the ability to create profits, particularly through capital growth for investors;
  • An exit strategy, perhaps through a public offer, trade sale or buy back;
  • A realistic valuation for incoming funds.

Our next Beer Investment Evening is being held on 30th March.

Hosted by St James’s Place Wealth Management please contact Matt Beard (beard@beerandpartners.com) or telephone 0207 329 4884 to confirm or ask for further details. For those of you who have not attended before and would like more information do please call or email.

If you are interested in finding out more or know someone who wishes to raise finance for their company visit our website by clicking here or contact Rod Beer on 0207 329 4884 or email beer@beerandpartners.com

BEER RAISE £250,000 FOR LIFT CARRIAGE MANUFACTURER

As a niche company within a large market our client has bucked the trend in construction related industries but was severely constrained by lack of working capital to take large contracts. A single investor has recognised the potential particularly in export markets and in addition to investment is making the ‘back room’ facilities of their other companies available to our client so they can focus on growth.

Property Division at the Investment Fair...

Property Division

Beer & Partners Property Division specialise in sourcing all types of finance for experienced Property Companies across the UK and Europe. Deal size ranges from £1 – £20m with the minimum suggested investment value per deal being £50,000.

Property investing can be quite different from our typical business angel activity. We are seeing a resurgence of interest in investment within this sector after two years of low activity. We are therefore taking a slightly different approach at our London Investment Fair next Thursday.

 There will be a specific area reserved for property clients and investors where you can meet not only developers seeking funding for projects, but also  our associates and a group of specialist advisors covering the financial, legal and project management aspects of property investment and development.

 The aim is to provide a platform where you can refine your interest and approach to property investment so that we can seek to find you the type of deal that interests you. We also have quite a few deals there ready for your perusal.

 This is the opportunity to come along and find out everything you need to know. We look forward to meeting you there.

Large volume sandwich manufacture is a mature industry undergoing significant consolidation – witness Greencore and Northern Foods. This suits the supermarkets but leaves a huge opportunity for a new, national supplier dedicated to convenience stores, hospitals, campuses and filling stations. The retail sandwich market is £2.7bn, of which supermarkets account for 89%. This company is seeking 1% of the balance.

Two directors of this new company have enormous experience of the trade. One has a proven track record in designing sandwiches for all types of outlet, across the social landscape. The other is buyer for one of the largest chain of convenience stores in the country. Interest has already been expressed by three major buying groups.

South Wales has been chosen for the 1st factory hub, because it has a ready supply of skilled labour and various Welsh Agencies and banks are providing support, including investment after six months. However, this decision is not irreversible.

This is a start-up being undertaken by two highly experienced directors. £185,000 is sought for a significant minority shareholding with Board representation. These funds will be used for fixed asset acquisition. Within 6 months the company is projected to be cash positive.

This business has developed a better way to deliver much-needed and highly effective drugs using patch technology. Many unpleasant side-effects are avoided.

In contrast to most pharma investments, the drugs concerned are previously well-proven and approved and therefore carry low risks of technical, safety and regulatory delays.

In the USA their first product has largely completed its development and has been licensed to a leading pharmaceutical partner. It will be used for treating depression. A second equally attractive deal for the EU market is expected soon. Considerable royalties are now anticipated.

The company intends to build and license out a portfolio of "Super Generic" drug candidates under new fully owned intellectual property rights.

The company has considerable confidence in the commercial success of its first product, having identified excellent US and European market opportunities.

In achieving this advanced stage in a little more than four years, the business has benefited from pathfinder funding by a consortium of private equity.

The company expects to be past break-even in 2014. Investor returns will be considerably enhanced by using additional growth capital raised in this round to build the patch delivered drug portfolio faster.
